The Richmond Rhythm Club was founded to educate members about jazz, swing, blues and similar music. Each session features a guest speaker - usually a musician, although we sometimes invite writers or broadcasters. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Some members stay on for a drink and a chat afterwards.
All the club's funds are used to pay the musicians and other expert guests, who talk, play their instruments, and use recorded music to illustrate the topic they have chosen.
Typically there are around 30 people in the audience, so it's an intimate setting in which you can learn about jazz and ask the guest whatever questions you may have.
Every session is unique, entertaining and stimulating.
The club meets on Tuesdays between 2pm and 4pm. Our year is divided into three terms, running from the beginning of October to the end of June, with breaks in between. Each term consists of ten weekly sessions.
Currently the most cost-effective way to attend is to pay £60 per term. Otherwise you can pay £8 for each individual session (£10 for the end-of-term gig). To pay in advance:

The Richmond Rhythm Club originated from classes in jazz history taught at Richmond Adult College by the pianist and trombonist Eddie Harvey, a contemporary of Ronnie Scott and John Dankworth and a pioneer of jazz education at a time when it barely existed in the UK. The original students later formed a breakaway group, continuing the sessions in the nearby Orange Tree pub.
Eddie is no longer with us but the Club carries on. We are now based at the Twickenham Club, 7 Church Street, TW1 3NJ.
Church Street is about 10 minutes' walk from Twickenham Station. Bus routes serving nearby Richmond Road, London Road and King Street include 33, 110, 290, 267, 281, 681, 481, 490, H22, R68 and R70.
